J’can women held on prostitution charges in Bahamas


NASSAU, Bahamas (CMC) – Bahamas police say they have arrested 24 people, including 16 Jamaican women, for various crimes including prostitution, murder, causing harm and dangerous drugs during an anti-crime operation over the weekend.
The police said that 16 Jamaican women were nabbed at two nightclubs during the anti-crime operation.
“Police suspect the women to be at the nightclubs for the purpose of solicitation for prostitution. The women were taken into custody for solicitation for prostitution and Breach of the Immigration Act.
“Police also confiscated a large amount of cash from women believed to be the proceeds of crime. The club owner of both clubs was also arrested for breach of the Business License Act and solicitation for prostitution,” the police statement noted.
Police said they were also investigating an overnight shooting in which a man is assisting their investigations, while in another incident on Sunday, an off duty female police officer was exiting a nightclub located when she was shot in the arm. The officer was transported to hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
The police statement gave no other details about the arrest of those on murder and drug charges.
