Cop convicted for beating businessman over line space.



KINGSTON, Jamaica — A policeman has been convicted for assaulting a businessman during an argument in an auto shop, the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) reported.
Constable Phillip Campbell, who was attached to the Kingston Central Police Station, was convicted Wednesday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.
Campbell will be sentenced on October 17, 2015. He faces a maximum of three years in prison.
Campbell was charged on May 9, 2011 two years after a St Andrew businessman made a report to the Police Public Complaints Authority (PPCA) on November 17, 2009.
Campbell reportedly pulled his service pistol on the complainant following a heated argument over the complainant’s place in a line at an auto parts store where both were conducting business.
The complainant also alleged that Campbell punched him in the region of his ear.
This case is the fourth matter completed in the courts, bringing the number of convictions to four. INDECOM currently has 100 matters before the courts.
